Robot Visions

Recently, we have been discussing the story Robot Visions and the ending pertaining to that story. We were asked whether or not a world without humanity is better than a world with nothing at all. I feel that if the world that was envisioned is inevitable and if we mess with the world will result in total human distinction then we need not to mess with the future. I robots were carrying on and had appeared to create a society in which we can only dream of. The robots at a time 200 years into the future were honoring the humans of the past. It seemed as if one of the robots most prized possessions was the museum of Manhattan.
I do not actually understand why this was such a debate. In class people stated that this is not the ideal future. Well obviously everyone thinks that the ideal future is consists of having either you or yourself living in the future. However, even if I accept the belief that robots are not human (either because they do not have free will, etc.) if the destruction of humanity is inevitable is it not better to have something carrying on the memory of that species.
I even look at this with the view that some people wish that we could live forever. This has gone far back into the past as shown by the book Beowulf. The people of the times wanted to immortalize themselves and the only way to do that was to make yourself legend. In essence this is what the robots are doing, immortalizing our culture and therefore us.
