The laws of humanics

In class we were discussing whether if three certain laws for humanics were written would this go far enough to preserve the rights of robots. I believe that the laws of humanics are written to make people feel more comfortable then the actual robots for whom they are serving to protect. I believe this because there are numerous loop holes that we can use in order to get things out that we fo not want to perform. When reading the books that Asimov wrote he mentioned the character of Andrew. This robot had a generalized brain which allowed him to perform certain activities and functions that other robots were not capable of doing. Andrew wanted to be a human and wanted the rights that were entitled to all other humans. However, it was not until the people knew that Andrew was going to die that they granted him human rights. In fact, the humans even went as far to ask him when he was going to die and therefore scheduled the trial to be held on that date. It was only after we percieved that he was no longer a threat that we accepted him as one of us. If the rights were actually for Andrew than we would have granted him the request when he made it instead of waiting for his death.
