What's more important?

I found this website via a friend on Facebook that talks about how a college student won an invention contest by creating what he calls "ChewBots". ChewBots are little robotic dogs that can move and are fluffy similar to a real life animal. The interesting thing about the article, to me, was that these toys beat out other inventions that could benefit the human race very well. For example, the second place holder invented a disposable test that would help people to check for anemia themselves rather than having to go to a doctor and find out. Third place, went to someone who invented a system that makes it nearly impossible for someone to steal your things even if they have your PIN number. I find it interesting that society is turning itself into something so focused on the fun aspect that we let things that could benefit our overall health and well being for a little fun.
