Technical activity automatically eliminates every nontechnical activity or transforms it into technical activity. This does not mean, however, that there is any conscious effort or directive will. Jacques Ellul

Turkle and Cellular Devices
I find what Turkle has to say about cell phones and similar technology to be interesting. After reading chapter 9 of Alone Together, some of my own observations have been confirmed regarding cell phone use and other technology that allows instantaneous messaging. I always notice how a majority of people are constantly on their phones or messaging on Facebook. While this does lead to a form of connection, it can also lead to a form of simplification that would not happen in a face to face conversation. Personally, my cell phone is mainly used as a timekeeper. Therefore, I always find it somewhat odd that others can be so engrossed within their cell phones.
