In chapter 10 Turkle talks about how people no longer talk on the telephone because they are texting or chatting online. She is worried about the effect on relationships. Here is an article in NY Times that talks about just that. It says that the trend in relationships and interactions between pre teens and teenagers is towards increasingly superficial and public interactions. I can't help but wonder about potentially negative consequences of having public relationships. Publicity ruins intimacy, just ask celebrities.
