Technical activity automatically eliminates every nontechnical activity or transforms it into technical activity. This does not mean, however, that there is any conscious effort or directive will. Jacques Ellul

Lost in the Flood
Albert Borgman encourages us to take part in activities such as reading and telling stories. These things are importance because they counter balance the effects of modern reality. These activities bring us away from information as reality. Modern techonology is draining away natural information. Its ridiculous that in future it could be more appealing for one watch a video made about Yellowstone park on a big screen that shows all the excitement, than actually going to the park and seeing and experiencing for oneself. People know longer find it important to experience information for themselves or get to really get to know something. People have become satisfied with just learning about something through the television, or the internet. This way of experiencing information for oneself becomes lost in the flood of technology. Another to counter balance the effects of modern technology is to go out to concerts. About a week and a half ago I went to a Bruce Springsteen concert in Cincinnati. I am quite a fan of his and several of his studio albums. These studio albums have a much higher sound quality than anything that I saw/heard at the concert but these albums simply cannot compare. Just yesterday I recieved a live recording from that very same concert. This live recording is of fairly good quality but it is nothing like the quality of his studio albums. However this album means so much more to me as a fan of the music of Bruce Springsteen. The reason for this is that when I listen to a song on this recording I actually experienced this song in person. I can recall the energy of the crowd what he was wearing, the reactions of the thousands of people there. This is something that can never ever be experienced from a studio album. Millions of people go out to concerts each year, these millions may not know it but they are counterbalancing modern technology.
