today in class we watched a short movie that gave me a sense of excitement i haven't felt in a long time. the short movie was called "Clay," and it was about a man in te technological future who wishes to die a normal death. the alternative is to have your mind scanned and digitally replicated so your consciousness can live forever. in this state, one can be in multiple places and doing multiple things at once.
whuh-buh-buh-tuh...THATS THE COOLEST THING EVER!!!
there is so much potential for good with this idea! you could have a thousand copies of yourself rebuilding whole cities that were destroyed by hurricanes and floods! you could send dozens of clones to deliver food to starving nations! its like you're more than human! its like having super powers! its like being a god! who wouldn't like that??
apparently everyone else in the class, because when the teacher asked who thought digital souls were a good idea, i was the only one who had my hand raised. there were questions about the ethicality about walking the earth as an electronc spectre. if your consciousness remains on earth, then could you still go into heaven? what are we if we can survive without a body? even if this technology becomes available, would it be morally and ethically just?
guys, we're talking about becoming something more than what we are, thats what every single person dreams about! what is wrong with this plan?? you get all the benefits of living without any of the negativities! you can live a life without the ties to material possessions. you don't need to worry about money, clothes, food, shoes, or anything else that makes us dependant on capitalism.
while we are trapped in our bodies, we are simply men, but with our spirits free to be everywhere at once, we become omniscient.
