Technical activity automatically eliminates every nontechnical activity or transforms it into technical activity. This does not mean, however, that there is any conscious effort or directive will. Jacques Ellul

Progress?
In class the other day, we talked about two distinct societies: traditional and modern/technological. These two different worlds exemplify the extremes of a balancing act. I imagine that a spot somewhere between either end would provide the most idealistic society in which to live. You would have the balance of traditional society and the progress that improves life of a modern society. Anyways, a traditional society comes off too utopian due to the fact that as human beings we inherently disturb nature. But we can apply the idea of balance to a world of progress and gain a better, more human friendly world that does not detrimentally affect our ability to maintain an equilibrium.
