Technical activity automatically eliminates every nontechnical activity or transforms it into technical activity. This does not mean, however, that there is any conscious effort or directive will. Jacques Ellul

Robots
It really caught me off guard when the meaning of robots meant slave. Robots are the mechanical slaves to work of humans. It is strange for me to think of them as slaves and that does put me in fear because the first thing that I think of is, is the movie iRobot. If we are working to make the perfect robot to use in our homes what if we make them to smart and they end up having their own minds and want to over take humans. They would have the ablity to do just that since we have made them to be the strongest we could, stronger than humans. When we try to make a pretty much just better human being with a mechanical human, we just need to be careful in fear of our future and limit them to never be just like humans as much as we can. This is why I would never consider robots humans, because I never want them to actually have minds.

I also have some sort of fear that building robots to be incredibly smart could be dangerous if they have the adaptability to different situations. iRobot illustrates this perfectly. I am not a big supporter of robots doing anything more than assembling things in work places as a machine soley. I don't know why we can't just do without them. They would make the human race even more non sociable than it is today. Robots would take place of even more jobs and restrict face to face relationships amongst humans.
Not only is the safety issue a scare, but what about unemployment rates? Right now the unemployment rate is causing a scare on the economy. If robots come along and take the jobs of many lower level jobs, where will those people go to work then? This will cause many families to go into debt which would ultimately hurt the economy. Which quite frankly I don't think we can afford.
Yes safety is a issue with the robots. I believe that it will only create problems if the robots start replacing human jobs. The issue then would, how can we take away from our own kind and replace with a robot. This I think is already happening in different factories throughout the country. How would you feel to lose you job and cannot support your family cause a machine can do it better.
I agree with Bob 100%! I believe that robots should be kept in work places as a machines putting things together. And robots are made to be slaves in a sense. Robots are technology and they are created to make our lives easier. They aren't created to be some kind of race or part of our society. Robots are things not beings! I also would be scared to see robots in the future take over even more jobs in the work force. I said in another thread that humans were created to do labor and hard work. We weren't created to find other things to do it for us. When we allow things to do everything for us, then bad things happen like millions of people around the world losing their jobs to machines.
I believe that this would in the long run be a good thing for the economy and the unemployment rate because this will force the human race into a era of education. The fact is that over a period of time there is not any jobs that people will be able to do that involve small uneducated task the people will have to start learning trait that are more skilled, notice this is not something that will happen over night and it may very well raise the unemployment rate in the beginning. We are going to need people that are able to work with robots and that are able to work on robots.
