Star Trek

In class this week we watched and episode of Star Trek. I thought the episode benefit what we learned in class about robots. I agreed with the people who said since the robot was able to make decisions he shouldn't be treated like any other machine. In the James Bond series James never spoke to his vehicles as like they were machines. So I agreed with the final decisions. I like the episode.

In the episode of star trek it is quite obvious the relation between that story and the story of Andrew Martin. In both stories a robot of some kind is fighting for its rights or its ability to have rights. I feel that both of these stories progress in a very similar manner and maybe that episode was based directly from Bicenntenial man. These similarities are too alike to be ignored.

The best part of the movie that really made me think was when they were playing cards and the commander bluffed against Data. Data had all of the factual information correct on how the odds were in his favor but no computer program is able to detect if someone is lieing or bluffing, that is what made data a robot.

I have watches star trek before and i have not watched it from this prospective before. It does have alot of interesting issues at hand. Data is by far the most interesting character and watching him interact is so cool. i would not be able to tell a difference at all from him compared to a human. it is also very obvious that he has relationships with his crew members and really cares about them.

The most interesting factor to me is that idea that humans a lot of the time take the liberty that they know what it is to be human and that they can tell when other things are not human but have a sever difficultly when ask to prove that they exist or that they are human. This stems for the fact that they are not really able to just take out their sole and essence and show it anyone that is wanting to see it. But for the very same reason it is going to become increasingly hard to have to prove that things are not human as the develop into things that more and more look and act like us
