Can thought go on without a body?
Can thought go on without a body? When asked this question I really don't think this could ever happen, and I think that is what makes humans so unique. We can think and have our own minds. Robots don't get to have this because they can only think and do what humans have programed into them. So it is still human with our own bodies and minds that give robots the chance to walk around. Minds are something only a human body can have, and I think no matter how much intelligence we may have a robots "brain" will never match a humans mind.

I agree with this comment as well. Robots are created by humans and we program into them what it is that we want them to do and to remember. Unless there is some type of a specialized brain or program made for robots where they can make decisions based on their feelings, this can't be done. Thought needs a human brain to be possible.
I agree with both of you. I'm always confused by these questions because they seem too easy to asnwer. We the humans are the ones who create the robots and we can only make them as smart as we are. Robots in my eyes will never be able to exceed or intelligence espicially to the point of beign able to think wihtout a body. A robot can only be up to date as much as hte human being that is creating it is. withut the human brain and body robots would not even be in a discussion today becuase they would have never been created and this questions would have never been brought to the table. a human brain needs to be present in order to process a thouhgt
I agree with these comments. I don't think thought can go one without a body. By thought, I mean a sense of uniqueness and with robots, there isn't any distinct personality. Humans program the robots so there is not a distanct uniqueness about them, which in turn makes me believe that thought cannot distinctly go on without a human brain. One that has its own personality and own individuality isn't present.
I believe thought can not go on without a body because humans are the ones that program the robots. A programed body cannot think on its own, it is told what to think and what to do.
I am going to have to deviate from what everyone else is saying. I believe that thought can continue if AI becomes advanced enough. If like in the movie Clay one is able to download your thoughts and still feel things with your body and still have emotions but with a mechanical body it is possible for the mind to continue without the original body.
I do agree that thought cannot go on without the body aswell. The one thing I believe what seperates us humans from the robots is the soul. The soul is the one thing we have the cannot be taken away and will remain with us forever in this life and will continue to live once the body is dead.
I also agree with the previous comments. A robot will always be man-made, created from machinary, with a specific function. The human brain is created from the biological formation of life. It is created from the flesh of human beings. A robot is constructed, not created by birth. The robot is merely a device human's create to complete a specific task.
I believe that humans are made up of a body, a mind, and a soul. This is also the view my Pastor takes. He described our bodies as taxi's that carry around our souls and mind. Robots will never be humans because even though they could be created with a body and even maybe some type of mind, they will never have souls. This to me is the reason why they would never be on the same level of value as a human.
I agree, at this point in time, with the majority opinion concerning the idea of robots thinking intelligently. If humans are the ones who create robots, then robots would not be able to think like we do because we are not 100% sure what makes us who we are. I'm not leaving out the possibility that some day in the future that robots will be made to have a mind of its own. If history is any indication then who knows what the possibilities could be for AI. Because if you really think about what makes us not just like an intelligent robot. Do we really know if were not just built and programed a certain way to think and act?
I definitely agree with this post. thought needs to come from somewhere. we need either a brain or a supercomputer to provide that. i recently watched hell boy 2 and it provided me with an interesting point. on e of the characters which is a robot is made up of basicly smoke. its hard to explain but it would leave the question alot to be desired for. i would recommend our class watch it.
